초록
This study explores how to interpret the lesion phenomenon in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America as a political and ontological interpretation of the body. The consideration of the American Lesion in Angels is a path of ontological thought that sympathizes with the voice of the excluded other who lives under the oppressive violence that arises in a pluralistic society. For this purpose, the research subjects are limited to the characters with various lesions. Thus, many characters should be analyzed with regards to the geographical position of AIDS in the play as an aspect of the lesion phenomenon. The characters will also be analyzed to examine the excluded voice of the other under the structural violence in the United States of America. After this analysis, we search for the possibility of resonating with the voice of the other, which is the pivot point in Angels. By doing so, this study will show that Kushner implies compassion in his work as the way of overcoming violence, exclusion, and deprivation of others.
