This study aims at searching for effective vocabulary teaching methods in secondary schools. Toaccomplish the objective, the researcher planned a teacher training session for the secondaryEnglish teachers, and collected data by surveying the participating teachers before and after thesession. In order to guide the direction of the study, the researcher reviewed relevant literatureand set up three research tasks. The data analysis revealed three major results. First, vocabularyteaching methods in secondary English instructions are different depending on each teacher. They spend different time and frequencies on teaching vocabulary. Second, teachers whoparticipated in the training session perceived that teaching vocabulary is not only necessary, butalso important. Their perception in teaching vocabulary has been changed, and they indicatedthat teacher education in teaching vocabulary should be provided. Finally, the study exploredeffective vocabulary teaching methods based on the participating teachers’ responses after thetraining session and created guidelines using them.
