The purpose of this study is to find out the concept of kangaroo care and the current status of the product, and to develop a fashion product for kangaroo care made of knitted material that can provide stability to both newborns and mothers after childbirth. First, the factors such as design, material, and sewing were analyzed through kangaroo care market status and the purchase of prototypes. And based on this analysis, the product development direction which is suitable for the domestic market was set. Total 5 items were developed in the form of a design that allows skin contact between newborns and mothers : a sleep-belt style, a wrap style, and a T-shirt style. Circular knitted fabric made of organic cotton 30’s, was used and in order to support the weight of the newborn, a deformed structure of differential pressure for each part was utilized. ISO No. 602(2N/4T Cover Stitch) and ISO No. 607(4N/6T Cover Stitch), that have high sewing strength, were used as a seam sewing, and ISO No. 406(D/N Bottom Cover Stitch) was used as a bottom sewing. In this study, we developed kangaroo care product that can provide stability and convenience to both mother and newborns. We expect that kangaroo care product, which has already been generalized in the US and Europe, can be conveniently used by domestic consumers.
