영어 학습자의 영어 말하기 학습전략과 학습자 변인들과의 관계 분석

This study aims to investigate the relationship between college students’ learner variables and their English speaking strategies and to suggest how to develop English speaking ability. Participants in this survey were 240 college learners and a questionnaire consisted of 30 items concerning English speaking strategies. Reliability, reasonability, factor analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis of the data were processed by the SPSS 24.0. First, there existed six speaking learning strategies: cognitive, memory, metacognitive, compensation, affective, social strategies. Second, compensation and affective strategies appeared to be stronger than cognitive and metacognitive strategies. Third, no significant differences in class satisfaction and speaking learning strategies were found based on gender. Fourth, there were significant differences in all uses of strategies between high and low speaking competence groups. Fifth, all of the factors were related to speaking competence and class satisfaction. In conclusion, professors need to motivate students to use effective speaking learning strategies more and consider their gender, major, and speaking competence.
