초록
This paper attempts to read Jeanette Winterson’s Frankissstein: A Story of Love as a trans-text. Frankissstein is a science fiction romance that intertwines Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with the realm of artificial intelligence, merging transgender and transhuman narratives. Winterson uses literature as the foundation for exploring artificial intelligence, tracing a genealogy within AI literature. She fictionalizes historical figures associated with AI and blurs the line between fact and fiction through her “Frankenstein” characters. The novel showcases temporal and spatial multiplicity through the dual first-person perspectives of Mary Shelley in the 19th century and Ry Shelley in the 21st century. This analysis demonstrates how Frankissstein functions as a trans-humanistic text, bridging transhumanist and transgender discourses through its protagonists and exploring the nature of a trans-text.
