Abstract
In the 「De fide et symbolo」St. Augustine mentioned that the authors didn't study a lot on the nature and the property of the Holy Spirit and so he developed the synthetic pneumatology that include the traditional theories. His theology of the Holy Spirit is considered as not only synthetic thought but also unique reflection. One of his explanations about the Holy Spirit, that the Holy Spirit is the love of God (Cairtas Dei), was evolved into the eschatologic dimension that the "Voluntas Fabri (the will of Creator, that is the Holy Spirit)" make all the creatures perfect in the history of salvation (oikonomia). Especially, Augustine gave emphasis that the human being is reformed, made perfect and recreated by the love of God that is the Holy Spirit. The「De fide et symbolo」9,16-19 present the explanations of the Holy Spirit with six different themes: 1) Ambrosius' theory that the Holy Spirit is the same "Deitas (divinity)" between the Holy Father and Holy Son; 2) the thought from the three Fathers of Cappadocia that Holy Spirit is "consubstantialis (same substance)" to the Holy Father and the Holy Son; 3) Marius Victorinus' pnumatological reflection that the Holy Spirit is "connexio, communio, copula (connection, communion, bond)" between the others Holy persons; 4) Hilarius' meditation that the Holy Spirit is "Donum Dei (the gift of God)"; 5) the common meaning of "sancire" at the Augustine's ages from which he analyzed the name of the Holy Spirit ("Sanctus"); 6) the most important theme is Ambrosius' theology that the Holy Spirit is identified with "Caritas Dei". We can say that Augustine's thought is really unique and synthetic because his theological reflections was inspired by the earlier scholars (especially, Basilius Magnus, Ambrosius and Marius Victorinus) and he had original contribution to others scholars to get the more perfect and various views of the Holy Spirit. And his pneumatology is the same thing that the bees collect the honey's materials from lots of different kind of flowers and make the honey that has unique flavor and fragrance.
