Abstract
Party Candidate Selection and Primary Election in Local Elections - A Case Study on the Korean Local Election of 2006 - Park, Jae-uk This study reviews the problem of politicization of local autonomy, stabilization of party candidate selection, and institutionalization of primary elections in light of dual dimensions of local autonomy, one as a system for local welfare and another as a political machine for authoritative allocation of scarce resource in each local jurisdiction. Review generally argues that the current operation of those two systems revealed many shortcomings. In conclusion, with emphasis on the impending necessity of mutual development between local autonomy and party politics in local area, this study proposes some directions for improvement to overcome those current operational problems.
