Abstract
Qualitative Methods is a generic term that refers to a range of techniques including participant observation and intensive interviewing. This article looks at the role of qualitative methods in eliciting people's views inside and outside the political system. The criticism of qualitative methods centers around the problem of the reliability in the collection of data and the analysis and interpretation of interview data. The representative actual proof of qualitative methods can be shown by the study of budgeting process by the Heclo and Wildavsky and the study of voting behavior of workers by Devine. Qualitative studies have made a significant contribution to political science from the study of power relationships in central government to voting in general elections. But the participant observation and intensive interviewing is the most appropriate techniques in the study of such issues.
