Abstract
In order to foster creative talents demanded by future society, systematic education to cultivate computational thinking should start from the early grades of elementary school where various foundational competencies are formed. This study was conducted with the aim of exploring effective programming education methods for elemen- tary school lower-grade learners who encounter block coding for the first time. To achieve this, a 10-session pro- gramming class using a mobile-based coding application was developed and implemented for first-grade elementary school students. The learning experiences of the learners during the classes were deeply analyzed through the ex- amination of class videos, observation journals, interviews, and coding outputs. The research results showed that students had various educational experiences from the perspectives of subjectivity, content, and environment. This study is significant in that it proposes a lesson using a mobile-based coding application as a way for lower ele- mentary school students to start programming more easily, and it examines the learning process and experiences of learners in-depth from a constructionist perspective.
