Abstract

This review raised some problems about the life of GeumTae(金陀禪師: 1898∼1948), the monk of Baekyangsa(백양사) in modern times, under historical context. There has been no research on kumTae. Nevertheless, I have written this article in recognition of the need for gold research in several aspects. First, he is a teacher of Chunhwa(淸華禪師), a high priest who has led the scholarship and the followers with the identity of a Buddhist ritual. It is absolutely necessary to understand the GeumTa in the reality that the research on the Chunhwa is increasing rapidly. Second, GeumTae is a disciple of Song Mangam(송만암), Baekyangsa. Therefore, if we want to understand kumTa, we need to understand the idea of Song Mangam. In other words, the examination of the correlation between Mangam and GeumTae is required as an illumination of Baekyangsa history and culture. Third, the monk(GeumTae) practiced zeon and farming. By the way, in the modern period Baekyangsa, Baekhakmyong(백학명) and Songmangam advocated and practiced Sunonong Buddhism(禪農佛敎) respectively. other words, it is necessary to compare Paekhakmyong, Songmansam, and Geumtae's Sunonong Buddhism. Fourth, He helped Han Yongwoon(한용운), who was a poet and an independent activist. It is the person who provided the place of the shrubbery which lived in the latter half of life. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the relationship between Han Yongun and GeumTae. I have seen the importance of the research that I have seen so far. However, the study of the GeumTae is now in its infancy, and there are very few available materials to study. In the future, it will be necessary to accumulate the research base by searching literature documents and objective oral testimony.
