묵상기도에 대한 고찰 : 위니캇의 중간현상 이론을 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 위니캇의 중간현상이라는 정신분석 이론의 틀을 가지고, 오랜 기독교 전통의 묵상기도를 재조명하므로 묵상기도를 관계적 측면에서 고찰하려는 것이다. 위니캇에 의하면, 경험이 발생하는 중간영역이란 내면세계와 외적 실재가 함께 기여하는 인간 삶의 제 삼의 부분이다. 묵상기도가 중간영역과 관련된다는 것은 묵상기도의 하나님 현존 경험이 추상적이고 형이상학적인 영역이 아니라, 일상적인 인간의 관계 경험 안에서 발견된다는 사실을 제시한다. 본 논문의 주요내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아-어머니 관계에서 중간현상과 관련주제들의 발달에 대한 이론적 탐구이다. 관련주제들이란 놀이, 홀로 있을 수 있는 능력, 비의사소통의 의사소통 등의 개념이다. 둘째, 중간현상과 그 관련주제 개념들을 사용하여 묵상기도를 구성하는 주요 속성들을 관계 정신분석적 관점에서 재해석하며 탐구하고자 한다. 즉 묵상기도에서 외적 실재로서의 성경말씀이 기도자의 주관적 상상 안에 펼쳐지며 하나님의 현존을 경험하는 것이 중간경험이다. 중간공간에서 기도자의 참자기는 무한한 배경적 타자인 하나님과 함께하는 마음중심에 이르러 고독(홀로 있음)을 이루며, 그 둘 사이의 대화는 침묵으로 이루어진다. 그 관계에서 느끼는 신뢰와 만족의 기쁨은 이 기도에 계속 더 몰두하며 깊어지게 하는데 이것이 바로 놀이의 특징이다. 본 연구는 묵상기도에 대해 정신분석적 고찰을 함으로써 기도자와 하나님과의 관계에 대한 이해를 심화하며, 그 중요성을 재확인한다.
Abstract
The goal of the present study is to explore meditative prayer in relational aspects by revisiting old traditional Christian meditative prayer in the frame of Winnicott’s transitional phenomena of psychoanalytic theory. According to Winnicott, a transitional area of experiencing is the third part of the life of a human being to which inner reality and external life both contribute. Relating meditative prayer with transitional phenomena represents that one may experience God’s presence not through abstract or metaphysical mode but through daily mundane human relationships. The present study discusses the following main points. First, this study explores the development of transitional phenomena and other associated attributes in the relationship between infant and mother. Specifically, those attributes are play, the ability to be alone, and nonverbal communication. Second, this study reinterprets and further investigates the main factors that constitute the meditative prayers in the psychoanalytic perspective of transitional phenomena and associated attributes. In other words, the transitional phenomena are experiencing God’s presence in the meditative prayer in which Bible verse as external reality and the subjective imagination of the scripture both contribute. In the intermediate area, one’s true-self achieves solitude (to be alone) with God that surrounds infinitely as the background in otherness at the center of mind, and these two communicate through silence. The feeling of trust and the satisfying joy in the relationship encourage one to engage in the prayer and develop a depth of it. which is the very characteristics of play. The present study deepens understanding and reassures the importance of the relationship between prayer and God by exploring meditative prayer with psychoanalytic theory.
