본 연구는 기도로 부흥했으나 기도의 열기가 식어가는 한국교회 현실에서 새로운 기도학교 모델을 제시하는 것을 시도하였다. 기도의 열기가 식는 이유 중의 하나는 간구중심의 기도가 더 이상 공감을 얻지 못하기 때문이고 신자들이 기도에 헌신해 왔으나 성화와 이타적인 신앙으로 변화되지 못했기 때문일 것이다. 이런 영적 위기에서 새로운 기도학교 모델을 제시하기 위해 먼저 기도의 신학적 이해를 고찰하였다. 20세기의 가장 탁월한 조직신학자의 하나인 폴 틸리히와 영성학자인 이블린 언더힐의 기도에 관한 교훈들을 분석하였다. 그것을 토대로 기도란 이기성을 초월하여 이타적인 존재로 바뀌어 가는 종교 행위라는 것과 그러한 기도를 위해 신자의 내면에서 지정의가 어떤 역할을 해야 하는지 밝혔다. 바람직한 기도생활을 위해서 새벽기도나 금요심야기도회 외에 별도의 기도학교를 운영하되 성경공부 모임처럼 약 10주 과정으로 수요일이나 주중 또는 주일 오후에 실천할 것을 제안하였다. 기도학교를 별도로 운영해야 하는 이유는 새로운 기도들을 실천하려면 먼저 강의를 통해 새로운 방법들을 숙지하여야하기 때문이고 무엇보다 기도자들이 자신의 기도 내용을 성찰하고 지도를 받는 영성지도(Spiritual Direction) 사역을 실천할 수 있기 때문이다. 영성지도 사역은 사막 교부들 시대부터 실천해온 전통으로 영적 생활의 초보자가 경험자로부터 기도 생활에 대해 조언을 듣는 것이었다. 영성지도를 할 때 한국교회 신자들은 좀 더 성화되고 이타적인 신자들로 바뀌게 될 것이다. 기도학교에서 실천할 기도의 방법들로 아홉 가지의 기도 방법들을 제안하였는데 기본적인 방향은 한국교회 신자들이 익숙한 통성기도와 다양한 침묵기도를 균형 있게 실천하는 것이다. 그 아홉 가지는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 통성기도로 시작하여 침묵기도로 마치는 기도, 둘째, 찬양을 부르고 그 가사를 묵상하며 드리는 침묵기도, 셋째, 로욜라의 이그나티우스의 교훈을 토대로 실천하는 의식성찰기도, 넷째, 시편의 탄원시를 활용한 상한 감정의 힐링의 기도, 다섯째, 창조물을 묵상하며 드리는 기도, 여섯째, 자신의 장례식을 묵상하며 드리는 죽음묵상 침묵기도, 일곱째, 렉치오 디비나를 응용한 말씀 묵상 침묵기도, 여덟째, 예수기도를 통해 일상에서 드리는 마음의 기도, 마지막으로 봉사와 기도를 제안하였다. 기도생활에도 변화가 필요한 한국교회에 기도학교에 대한 더 많은 연구가 이어지기를 기대한다.
Abstract
This study suggests a new prayer school model for Korean churches. Korean churches are well known for early morning prayer, which is often practiced daily. However, attendance as of late has rapidly declined. One of the reasons is that until the end of the 1980’s, churchgoers would typically say a petition prayer called “Tongsung prayer”, but when Korea began to enjoy economic wealth, churchgoers lost their motivation for prayer. During this spiritual crisis, the Korean church requires new methods of prayer that focuses on the presence of God and sanctification, and a prayer school would be an appropriate vehicle to teach these new methods. The nine methods that should be included within the curriculum are: Lectio Divina, the Jesus Prayer, the Tongsung prayer in accompaniment with silent prayer, prayer with Christian songs, prayer for emotional and spiritual healing using the lamentation psalms, prayer examining consciousness, prayer meditating on death, prayer meditating on creatures, and prayer with social service. In addition to those various prayers, a spiritual direction ministry should also be a part of the new prayer school. Spiritual direction ministry originates from the Desert Fathers who offered spiritual advice to those new to their prayer lives in order for them to advance spiritually. Participants of the prayer school will benefit greatly in their spiritual growth when they receive spiritual direction from their pastors through the school.
