융의 개성화(Individuation)와 영성적 진정성 : 분석심리학의 영성 연구에 대한 공헌

20세기 전반기부터 영성에 대한 현대적 관심이 증가하였으며, 현재까지 영성에 대한 다양한 관심과 학문적 논의가 진행되어 왔다. 영성 연구를 위해서는 위로부터 접근하는 연역법적 신학적 접근과 함께 다양한 인간 경험을 아우르는 아래로부터의 귀납법적인 신학적 접근도 필요하다. “신앙의 살아있는 경험(the lived experience of faith)”에 초점을 두고, 그 경험의 근간이 되는 인간의 영(spirit)에 대해 접근할 때, 영성에 대한 보다 풍성하고도 보편적 이해를 시도할 수 있기 때문이다. 인간과 그 경험에 대한 연구를 위해서는 심리학을 활용할 수 있는데, 융 심리학은 자아의 책임감과 개성화 과정에서의 진정성을 강조하는 면에서, 영성 연구에 대한 철학적 근간을 제시하는 동시에 실증적 연구의 가능성을 제공한다. 영성연구를 진정성과 책임성의 주제를 중심으로 실증적으로 접근하기 위해, 먼저 헬미니엑의 이해를 바탕으로 진정성의 주제에 초점을 두고 영성에 대한 심리학적 연구의 가능성을 살펴볼 수 있다. 헬미니엑이 제시한 비반추적 의식으로서의 영의 연구 가능성과 융 심리학에서 말하는 자기실현 과정을 살펴보면, 진정성이라는 관점에서 두 이론의 연관성과 연결점을 확인할 수 있다. 융 심리학의 자기실현과 헬미니엑의 비반추적 의식의 객관화는 상호유사성을 가지고 있으며, 두 이론 모두 인간은 그 과정을 향해 개방성을 가지고 책임있는 태도로 나아갈 필요성이 있다고 강조한다. 융 심리학은 개인 차원의 영적 경험과 추구에 대하여 설명하는 동시에 평가할 수 있는 보다 보편적인 기준을 제공해준다. 자기실현을 향하여 진정성 있게 무의식과 의식을 통합해가는 과정, 그리고 이를 통한 보편적 상과 진리에 이를 가능성을 제시하는 점에서 융의 분석심리학이 영성에 끼치는 공헌을 확인할 수 있다. 헬미니엑이 제안한 비반추적 의식으로서의 영의 활동과 존재 변화의 가능성에 대해 하나의 중요한 해석적 도구로 기능할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Modern interest in spirituality has increased since the first half of the 20th century, and various interests and academic discussions about spirituality have been conducted up to now. For the study of spirituality, a deductive theological approach from above as well as an inductive theological approach from below encompassing various human experiences are needed. By focusing on the “lived experience of faith” and approaching the human spirit, which forms the foundation of that experience, a more abundant and universal understanding of spirituality can be attempted. Because. Psychology can be used to study human beings and their experiences. Jung’s psychology provides a philosophical basis for spiritual research and at the same time provides the possibility of empirical research in terms of emphasizing responsibility and authenticity in the process of self-individuation. In order to approach spirituality research empirically, first, based on Helminiak’s understanding, it is possible to examine the possibility of psychological research on spirituality with a focus on the theme of authenticity. Looking at the possibility of studying the spirit as a nonreflecting consciousness presented by Helminiak and the process of individuation described in Jung’s psychology, the correlation and connection between the two theories in terms of authenticity can be found. Jungian psychology’s individuation and Helminiak’s objectification of nonreflecting consciousness have mutual similarities, and both theories emphasize the need for humans to move towards the process with an openness and a responsible attitude. Jungian psychology provides a more universal criterion by which to evaluate, as well as to describe, individual-level spiritual experiences and pursuits. The contribution of Jung’s analytical psychology to spirituality can be confirmed in that it presents the process of integrating the unconscious and the conscious with authenticity towards individuation and the possibility of reaching the universal image and truth through this process. It will be able to function as an important interpretive tool for the possibility of changing existence and the activity of the spirit as a nonreflecting consciousness proposed by Helminiak.
