이 논문은 세계 기독교교육학계와 실천신학을 선도하는 메리 엘리자베스 멀리노 무어(Mary Elizabeth Mullino Moore)의 기독교교육과 신학을 연구하며 그 한국적 적용을 시도한 연구이다. 우리 세계인들은 지난 3년간 ‘코로나’라는 팬데믹 재앙을 경험하고 있다. 이 길고 긴 터널을 지나며, 우리는 또한 포스트-코로나(post-corona) 시대를 준비해야 하는 당위 앞에 서 있다. 이에 본고는 메리 무어의 생애와 그녀의 대표적 네 저서를 통한 그녀의 기독교교육적 특징들을 살펴보며, 코로나의 팬데믹(pandemic)을 엔데믹(endemic)으로 이끌려는 현 한국적 상황들에 그녀의 이론들을 적용시켜 보려 한다. 메리 무어의 기독교교육은 크게 다음과 같은 네 가지 특징들을 가진다; 첫째 무어의 기독교교육은 전통과 경험의 양단을 아우르는 통전적인 것이다. 둘째, 그녀의 교육은 마음으로부터의 유기적인 가르침이다. 셋째, 그녀의 교육은 생태-여성신학적 관점의 연대를 추구하며 피조세계를 보전하는 함께 함의 교육이다. 마지막 네 번째로 그녀의 기독교교육의 특징은 삶으로의 예전적 교육이다. 본고는 이러한 메리 무어의 기독교교육의 특징들을 기독교의 기본적인 전승인 성경이 증언하는 예수그리스도의 교육에 관한 전통과 현재의 경험을 통전적이고, 유기적이게 아우르며, 현재의 한국적 상황에 적용시켜 보며, 포스트-코로나 시대를 대비해 보려 한다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 구성을 가진다. 서론인 I장에서는 포스트-코로나 시대를 여는 시기 속에서의 메리 엘리자베스 무어의 기독교교육 연구의 필요성을 찾아 볼 것이다. II장에서는 메리 무어의 생애에 대하여 간략히 살펴 볼 것이다. 본론격인 III장에서는 메리 무어의 네 권의 대표적 저서에 담긴 그녀의 기독교교육의 특징들에 대해 알아볼 것이다. 실천적 적용을 다루는 IV장에서는 이러한 무어의 기독교교육을 지금의 포스트-코로나를 준비하는 한국적 상황 속에 적용시켜 보며, 결론인 V장에서는 그 한계와 의의들을 제시할 것이다.
Abstract
We, world citizens, have experienced a pandemic disaster, covid 19 during the past three years. We also should have prepared for the post-covid 19 eras. Mary Elizabeth Mullino Moore is one of the leading Christian educational scholars in this era. I think that Moore’s Christian educational theory is suitable for this situation and her insistences are needed in this post-covid 19 era. In this study, focusing on her four representative books, I explain Moore's Christian educational theories and theology. Mary Moore's Christian educational theories have four characteristics. First, her Christian educational theory is holistic. Second, her Christian education is a kind of organic teaching from the heart focusing on life. Third, her Christian education is the teaching together with others including all of the creature world. Fourth is sacramental teaching from our lives. From these perspectives, the study tries applications to the Korean context in this era. The structure of the study is as follows: In the introductory part, chapter I, I will find the needs of the study about Mary Moore in this era. Chapter II deals with Mary Moore’s whole life journey. In chapter III, I will explore the characteristics of Mary Moore’s Christian education through her four representative books. In chapter IV, I will apply her Christian education to the Korean context. In chapter V, I will conclude the thesis with the limitation and meanings of the study.
