초록
This paper critiques selfish, racist, and anthropocentric humanism, which often fails to recognize or engage with communication between human and non-human entities. Philosophers, such as Heidegger, Foucault, Derrida, and Nietzsche, have critiqued humanism for its inherent ontological limitations, self-surveillance, discipline, and logocentrism. Unlike traditional critiques treating human existence as static, this study emphasizes the dynamic materiality of the human subject, allowing interaction with other forms of matter. Scholars like Braidotti, Hales, and Haraway argue that advances in digital IT and biotechnology are reshaping humanist ideas of body and mind. Francesca Ferrando calls posthumanism “the philosophy of our time,” urging a redefinition of humanity amidst scientific and technological developments. As existence increasingly becomes subsumed by hyperreal simulacra devoid of materiality, the ethical recognition of that existence diminishes. Furthermore, the subject’s appropriative—often colonial—thought processes constitute an epistemological violence toward the other, resulting in diminished empathy for the suffering of others. This study examines the fragmentation of humanism and its disconnection from ethical relations with the existence of the other in contemporary society. By analyzing the 2024 Netflix sci-fi film Atlas, it examines overcoming inner trauma and restoring relationality between humans and non-humans, offering insights into healing humanism’s split through a posthuman perspective.
