Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify psychological groups of infant-father by using a LatentProfile Analysis(LPA) and to explore influences of fathers’ psychological characteristics on parentingengagement and attitude and young children’s interactive peer play. By using a sample of Koreaninfant-fathers from the 4th year of Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, three groups weregenerated regarding self-efficacy, self-esteem, and depression: (1) psychologically depressed group (2)psychologically stable group (3) psychologically pleased group. In order to examine the significantdifferences among indices of infant-fathers‘ psychological status, a Multinomial Logistic Regression andOne-way ANOVA were conducted. As a result, psychologically more stable and pleased group ofinfant-fathers were more likely to engage in parenting and to have more positive attitude towardparenting. Moreover, a child of psychologically pleased infant-fathers showed sociable relationshipswith peers through on interactive peer play.
