초록
Previous studies on marine terrace in the Korean Peninsula have been mainly carried out in the East Coast where surface and scarp of marine terraces are obviously differentiated. Although studies on marine terrace in the West Coast have been rarely conducted due to sporadic distribution, research results of marine terrace in the West Coast combined with those in the East Coast will provide meaningful evidences for tectonic movements in the Korean Peninsula. Small marine terraces in the Nampo area, Boryeong-si, West Coast, narrowly and lengthily distribute with a direction of NW-SE, and consist of five geomorphic surfaces of marine terrace in different formative ages with former shoreline elevations of 15~17m, 20~23m, 25~30m, 35~40m and 42~45m. The geomorphic surfaces with a former shoreline elevation of 20~23m in the study area corresponding to Lower Terrace I in the East Coast correlate to MIS 9, and higher surfaces are very fragmentary and small. Based on the marine terraces in the Nampo area, Boryeong, West Coast and previous studies, it can be suggested that uplift rate in the West Coast during the Quaternary is smaller than that in the East Coast.
