미군정 지배 하의 일본에서 오랫동안 금지되었던 히로시마 원폭에 관한 영화가 처음 공개된 것은 1952년 8월 신도 가네토(新藤兼人)감독의 ≪원폭의 아이≫(原 爆の子)이다. 이어 1953년에 세키카와 히데오(関川秀雄)감독의 ≪히로시마≫(ひ ろしま)가 히로시마의 시민과 교육계의 적극적인 지원으로 (8만8천5백명 엑스트 라 참여) 원폭직후의 참상을 재현하는 두 번째 영상이 되었다. 세 번째 영화는 6년 후 공개된 일본과 프랑스 합작영화 ≪히로시마 내 사랑≫이다. 이 영화는 나치 아우슈비츠 수용소의 참상을 보여주는 다큐멘터리영화≪밤과 안개≫(Nuit et brouillard)로 주목을 받았던 젊은 감독 알랑 레네(Alain Resnais)의 작품으 로 1959년 6월 프랑스에서 ≪Hiroshima mon amour≫, 일본에서는 ≪24시간 의 정사≫(二十四時間の情事)로 각각 개봉되었는데, 당시로서는 불편한 주제인 ‘원폭’을 다룬 것 뿐 아니라 영화 미학적으로 획기적인 영화로 평가받았다. 본 연구에서는 ≪히로시마 내 사랑≫의 해석에서 내러티브에 못지않게 중요한 영화음악의 역할을 살펴보고 내러티브, 영상, 영화음악을 종합적으로 고려하여 영상을 해석하고자 한다. 영화음악은 과거의 트라우마를 가진 여주인공의 심리적 변화를 해석해주고, 결국 그녀의 트라우마가 치유되어 새로운 인식에 도달하는 과정을 이해하는 데 중요한 정보를 제공한다. 결론적으로 이 영화가 음악적 평화 반전영화임을 주장하고자 한다.
Abstract
The Japanese-French film Hiroshima mon amour, published in 1959 by Alan Resnais, is considered as “a wonder in the postwar film history” due to its modern way of interpreting reality. The astonishing film music of Hiroshima mon amour, in particular using the counterpoint and leitmotiv functions, give obvious messages to screens which alone remain unclear. This study addresses the understudied film music exploring a new possibility of interpreting this film. While Hiroshima mon amour was often received as a film about the mechanisms of memory and forgetfulness, the comments of film music show that Hiroshima mon amour can be a film to express the human search for personal happiness and peace, and the constant awareness of collective tragedy and threat.
