율곡 시에 나타난 ‘拙樸’의 미의식 -『정언묘선』 「원자집」과의 관련성을 중심으로-

이 논문은 율곡 시에 나타난 ‘졸박’의 미의식에 착안하여, 그의 시학서 『정언묘선』과의 연관성을 통해 그 학시 배경과 의미를 고찰해 보고자 한 것이다. 『정언묘선』은 율곡이 중국 시 중에서 시의 전범으로서 본받을 만한 것들을 8가지 미적 범주를 설정하여 선집한 독특한 기획의 시선집이다. 특히 정언묘선은 미적 가치를 등차적으로 분류하여 ‘충담소산’한 것을 시적 품격의 최고의 것으로 여겼다. 필자는 충담소산의 풍격으로 묶인 원자집의 주된 심상이 ‘졸박’의 미의식에 있음을 포착하고, 그것이 율곡의 시에도 영향을 미쳐 그런 특성이 드러남을 확인할 수 있었다. 본고는 이에 그의 원자집에 나타난 졸박의 문예미학을 밝히고, 율곡 시의 드러난 특성을 연계하여 규명하였다. 그리고 그의 ‘졸박의 미의식이 가지는 의미’를 그의 시학 사상과의 맥락 속에서 조명하고자 하였다. 율곡에게 있어 졸박함이란 자연의 본질적인 상태이자 마음의 무욕을 의미한다. 그러므로 물욕을 씻어내고 졸박함을 깊이 체득했을 때, 도를 이루는 바른 삶을 살 수 있고 꾸밈없이 자연스럽고 진실한 예술을 이룰 수 있다. 이러한 졸박에 대한 미학적 기초는 『도덕경』의 사상에서 많은 영향을 받은 것이며, 이것은 율곡의 여러 문예론과 시문에 일관되게 나타나는 중요한 특성이라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper seeks to examine the background and meaning of the manual of poetics "Jeong-un-myu-seon" by its relation with Jolbak's aesthetic sense found in Yulgok's poems. "Jeong-un-myu-seon" is a unique selection of poems in which Yulgok selected among Chinese poems that can be models of poetry, by establishing eight different types of aesthetic areas. Especially, "Jeong-un-myu-seon" divided aesthetic value in different grades and regarded "Chung-dam-so-san" meaning simple and clean sense of beauty - as the best poetic dignity. The writer could catch the aesthetic sense of Jolbak as the main image of "Wonjajip" which is full of "Chung-dam-so-san" style, and could see that this kind of feature also had effect on Yulgok's poems to show that characteristic. This paper clarified the literary aesthetics of Jolbak shown in "Wonjajip", and examined the exhibiting features of Yulgok's poem in connection. Also, I tried to lighten his "meaning of Jolbak ‘s aesthetic sense" in connection with his poetic idea. Being Jolbak to Yulgok is the essential state of nature and freedom from avarice. Thus, when having washed away worldly desires and deeply comprehended Jolbak, one can live a proper life reaching the truth and achieving art that is honest, simple and natural. The aesthetic basis of this Jolbak was much affected from the ideas of "Doduk-kyung", which can be said to be an important feature consistently shown in many literary theories and poems of Yulgok.
