Abstract
This work is a research into various forms of representations related to the Heaven's Mandate ideology of Zhou Dynasty in ancient China; birth myth of Prince Millet(Hou Ji), ancestor of the Zhou; sacrifice Jiao; Royal Tour; House of Luminosity, symbolic archetecture which shows explicitly the function of Son of the Heaven. The birth myth of Prince Millet is composed of some miraculous mythèmes. Jiang-yuan conceived Hou Ji after treading the footprint of celestial Emperor. Hou Ji was born without doing any harm and any injury to his mother's corps. He was abandoned three times immediately after his birth. The analysis of these mythèmes led us to get their messages. The first two of them tell us that Prince Meillet, ancestor of the Zhou, was born a son of the Heaven who was received the mandate from the Sky to rule over a kingdom. And a story of triple-ordeal declares that the agricultural civilization is completely founded in China with the birth of Prince Millet. The sacrifice Jiao of the Zhou was an hierogamy which had married the Emperor in the sky with cereal divinity in the earth, and kings of the Zhou had reconfirmed the Heavens Mandate every year and on the occasions of calamity in their kingdom. Judging from some archeological discoveries, it seems that Zhou Dynasty appropriated solar ritual which had existed long before the period Zhou by changing a little it's character and it's meaning. The House of Luminosity was an archecture constructed for the purpose of showing that the kings of the Zhou are those who were carrying out with sincerity their responsibility of establishing the harmonious order of the Nature in their kingdom. The Royale Tour was an inspection of great mountains and rivers and all the principalities in the kingdom. It's a kind of sun dance performed by the sons of the Sky conforming to the movement of the sun.
