초록
This paper is concerned with the effects of the so-called baby talks, which is assumed to be also a part of Sign Language, on the development of the Faculty of Language (FL). How children acquire their mother language has been studied a long time. Chomsky maintains that the most plausible explanation for this problem is to posit that the course of acquisition is determined by a biologically endowed innate Language Faculty within the brain, which provides children with a genetically transmitted algorithm for developing a grammar, on the basis of their linguistic experience. Regarding the linguistic experience, I argued that from the birth to 7-8 months into the children's acquisition, baby talk is also a valuable linguistic experience. Since baby talk is linguistic input to activate their FL, they must observe a proper Bare Output Condition (BOC) in order to be externalized like a verbal language. I suggested that BOC for a sign language be related with a visual-perceptual system since a sign language is a legitimate language which is generated with the use of a movement of hands and non-manual signals.
