일제강점기 독서 현황과 독서법 연구 - 1920~30년대 ≪東亞日報≫·≪朝鮮日報≫ 기사를 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this study, focusing on reading-related articles published in the Dong-A Ilbo and Chosun Ilbo in the 1920s and 30s during the Japanese colonial period, is to examine the current status of reading at the same time and the problem of reading method. The actual analysis was carried out by classifying it as follows. First, it is a question of “Why should I read it?” At that time, the value of reading was that reading ability is the cultural power of the nation, it determines the prosperity and fate of the nation, and it is to become a civilized world citizen. In addition, reading Western knowledge is modern, and it also shows a Western-oriented aspect as a means of acquiring the qualities of a global citizen. Second, it is a problem of “What should I read?” In order to examine this, we looked at good book recommendations and reading trends that appeared in newspapers in the 1920s and 1930s. As the number of reading materials provided increased, the selection of good books has emerged as a hot topic, and celebrities from various fields recommended them. The letters of recommendation are mainly Western-oriented foreign books, and even they are Japanese translations. As a result, the problem of Korean translation was raised. Third, it is a problem of “How should I read it?” This can be said to be a review on the reading method and reading education theory for an effective reading method. In particular, this problem was examined by dividing the reading method for the general public and the reading education method for children. While the reading method for the general public remained traditional and general perusalism, for children, more specific and advanced methodologies were presented, including book selection and reading education and reading methods.
