초록

Many scholars have conducted corpus-driven research on lexical bundles; however, most studies have compared the lexical bundles used by novice learners with those used by professionals or the lexical bundles used by L1-English students with those used by L2-English students. Only a few studies have compared lexical bundles used by L1-English academics with those used by L2-English academics. This paper examined the similarities and differences in the structures and discourse functions of the bundles used by L1-English and L1-Korean academics in 100 business research articles in the discipline of social study. A comparative analysis showed that, contrary to the findings of most previous studies, L1-Korean academics used more varied lexical bundles than L1-English academics did. The analysis of the structural use of the lexical bundles revealed the statistically significantly result that L1-English academics used PP-based lexical bundles more than VP- and NP-based ones. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the frequencies of use of these types of lexical bundles by the L1-Korean academics. As for the discourse functions of lexical bundles, the analysis indicated that the L1-Korean writers used stance-oriented lexical bundles as frequently as their L1-English counterparts.
