Abstract
I. Introduction 2. Reinterpretation of the earlier description of toneme in Kimhae dialect In Kimhae dialect, there exist three distinctive pitch levels. Among these tones native speakers perceive intuitively high tone as accented. On the basis of this fact, I treated the tone specially as accented high pitch H`. To compare with Ho`s description, mine is as follows; Ho`s : Kim`s high(H) : extremely high (H`) mid(M) : high (H) low(L) : low (L) 3. Tonal patterns in Kimhae dialect In Kimhae dialect, within a phonological phrase, there can be three types of pitch patterns; type l has an accent on one of the syllables, type 2 does not have an accent but begins with high tone and type 3 does not have an accent but begins with low tone. 4. Correspondences of tones between Middle Korean and Kimhae dialect is as follows; Middle Korean : Kimhae dialect Level tone (L) : L, H` Departing tone (H) : H Rising tone(L-H) : L 5. Revision of the Kyongsang Accent Shift Rule of Ramsey(1978) I argumented that Middle Korean has no distinctive accent such as H` in Kimhae dialect. In other words, H` is not a primary one but is developed lately. Thus I suggested that KAS should be revised as Kyongsang Accent Gcnerating(KAG)rule; L → H`/_________ H 6. Conclusion
