조선의 지역극장과 ‘공간’의 의미

일제 강점기 지역극장은 한국연극사에서 주요한 관찰 대상이 되어야 한다. 하지만 작금까지 연구는 지역극장에 대한 관찰에 전반적으로 소홀한 편이었으며, 이로 인해 지역극장이 담보하는 공간에 대한 논의 역시 소략하기 이를 데 없었다. 이러한 선행 연구의 한계를 보완하기 위해, 본 연구는 지역극장을 여러 층위의 공간 개념으로 살펴보고자 한다. 첫 번째 공간적 층위는 물리적 위치(소재)와 극장 건립(자)의 관계에서 찾을 수 있고, 두 번째 공간적 층위는 극장을 둘러싼 종족(조선인과 일본인) 간의 대립과 경계에서 관계에서 찾을 수 있다. 세 번째 공간적 층위는 지역극장과 지역 주민들의 심리적 거리에서 찾을 수 있고, 네 번째 공간적 층위는 ‘관람자로서의 관객’이 공연물(콘텐츠)에 대해 느끼는 심리적 욕망에서 찾을 수 있으며, 다섯 번째 공간적 층위는 의식의 거주 공간으로서의 극장의 기능에서 찾을 수 있다. 여섯 번째 공간적 층위는 지역극장이 당대의 중앙의 극장이나 일본인들과 관련되는 생태학적 관계망에서 역시 찾을 수 있다. 이러한 다양한 공간적 층위는 조선과 조선인들에게 지역극장이 문화사(공연사)적으로 어떠한 역할을 수행했는가를 알려주는 근거가 될 전망이다.
Abstract
In Japanese occupation, the local theater of Korea is an important target area in the Korea theater history. However, the current study was negligent in the observation of these local theater. Because of this, the academic survey of local theater is very rare. To compensate for this vulnerability academic, this study will look at several layers in the space of a local theater. The first meaning is found in the relationship between physical location and theater owner. The second meaning is a conflict between the races (Japanese and Korean) surrounding the theater. The third meaning is a psychological distance of theaters and local residents. The fourth meaning is the psychological desire for the audience as spectators to feel the performances of the local theater. The fifth meaning can be found in the role of theater space as the residence of consciousness. The sixth meaning can be found the ecology on Korean culture in the ecological relevance associated with the central theater and contemporary Japanese theater area. These various meanings of space in regional theaters is expected to be an important basis to inform the Korean shipbuilding and the role of local theaters.
