본 연구는 기존과 구별하여 주어진 단시간 안에 배우가 역할의 성격을 발현하는 분석방법에 대하여 새로이 논의한다. 그것은 배우의 분석에서 명확하게 가시화되지 않았던 역할의 성격에 대하여 목적과 행동 사이에 은유의 항목을 추가하여 기록하는 방식을 통해서 성립한다. 본문에서는 우선 배우의 역할 창조의 한 단계로서 분석의 체계와 기능에 대해 살펴보고, 분석의 핵심 테제 중 하나인 ‘정확’이 지닌 의미와 한계에 대한 진단을 통해서 배우의 분석에서 은유의 도입에 대한 근거를 확보한다. 그리고 다음으로 배우의 외양과 천성, 역할의 행동과 구별되는 성격의 고유성에 대해 탐구하고, 이를 바탕으로 배우의 실연에서 성격을 추출하고 기록하는 방식에 대해 모색한 후 성격의 발현을 설계하는 분석의 방법을 최종적으로 제안할 것이다. 결국 본문은 배우가 행동을 활용해서 역할의 구현을 설계하는 것처럼 은유를 활용해서 역할의 성격을 설계하는 방식을 새로이 제안하는 논의이다. 이는 달리 말해, 역할의 행동과 더불어 역할의 성격 역시 분석 과정에서 로고스, 언어라는 기호를 통해서 코드화될 수 있으며, 역할의 성격 역시 배우의 실연에서 발현하는 하나의 운동 작용이란 사실을 입증하는 것이다. 또한, 본문은 그동안 정확을 지향해 온 배우의 분석에서 불가피한 오차를 인정하고 그 자리에 은유의 영역을 포괄하는 방식의 성립을 통해서 분석 과정에서 배우의 창의력이 자유롭게 발휘될 수 있는 근거를 확보하는 시도이다. 이제 배우의 분석은 절묘한 선문답에서 돈오(頓悟)를 얻어내는 선승의 수행과 닮아가며, 짧은 시구에 삶의 희로애락을 담아내는 하이쿠처럼 ‘정확에 근거한 시 쓰기’로 개념적인 변화를 일으키며, 은유의 세계를 배우의 영역으로 끌어들인다.
Abstract
This study is to discuss how to analyze an actor who manifests the character of a given role in a short time. To analyze the actor manifesting the character, which has not been accurately measured in actor analysis, I used metaphoric elements to analyze and record the character between its purpose and action he expresses. In this paper, I first examined the system and function of analyzing the creation of a role by an actor and diagnosed the meaning of 'accuracy', which is one of the main considerations in the analysis and the limit to the analysis. With the earned results, I confirmed the valid ground of introducing metaphor in the analysis of an actor. Then, I explored the uniqueness of character, which is different from the appearance, nature, and actions of the role given to an actor. With the findings, I examined the analysis method to extract and record the character of a role from his actual performance. Finally, I proposed a method to analyze the manifestation of character. Eventually, I proposed a new way to design the character of an actor's role by using metaphor as an actor can design a role through his actions. In other words, I demonstrated that the character of a role as well as actions can be codified with logos and symbols like language in the process of analysis and that the character of the role is also one of the actions the actor manifests through performance. In addition, this study was an attempt to concede there are inevitable errors in the analysis of an actor, though aiming for accuracy, and to build a ground for the free manifestation of an actor's creativity in the analysis process in which I fill the conceded domain with metaphoric items. The actor's analysis now resembles the work of a Zen priest who gets the sudden enlightenment out of practice asceticism and creates a conceptual change in ‘writing a poem based on accuracy’ like as Haiku that contains life's joys and sorrows in a short poem and draws a world of metaphor into the field of actors finally.
