초록
Recently it has been reported severe symptom of wear in bearing due to foreign substances mixed in lubricant. Therefore, it is necessary to study the effects of foreign substances such as combustion products and metallic debris on wear of journal bearings and propose the appropriate management standard of lubricant cleanliness. The effect of particle size and concentration of foreign substances on the surface damage has been actively progressed in recent studies. They have presented the possibility that foreign substance would cause direct wear on bearing surfaces. However, the experiments were performed for the basic test such as Pin-on-disk test instead of real bearing system. In this paper, surface damage due to foreign substances (Combustion products and Alumina) mixed in the lubricant was experimentally examined for journal bearing and the effect of type and size of particles on wear characteristics. Lubrication test were performed in experiment device of journal bearing which is similar to real bearing system. Operating conditions for desired film thickness is calculated by HL numerical analysis, experiment results and film parameters. Analysis results were modified to consider the surface roughness. Experiment was conducted for 10 minutes including stabilization process. Experiment results have shown that alumina particle which is bigger than minimum film thickness cause significant surface damage.
