Abstract
As the performance of PEMFC can be significantly affected by the humidity of gas supplied in its stack, several types of humidifiers are available for humidity control. Among them, the shell-type and tube-type gas-to-gas membrane humidifiers have several advantages. Membrane humidifiers exchange heat and water simultaneously, and additional power source or moving parts are not necessary. The study of membrane humidifier with porous metal foam was conducted to analyze its heat transfer, mass transfer, and pressure drop characteristics. The results showed that the heat and mass transfer rates of the membrane humidifier with porous metal foam were higher and its pressure drop was lower than those of the conventional membrane humidifier.
