초록
The Carpesium abrotanoides L extract (CEA) is a traditional Chinese medicine and is known to have various effects. However, the anti-cancer effects and the action mechanisms of CEA remain elusive in human colon cancer HT-29 cells. Therefore, we investigated the effects of different CEA on the growth of HT-29 cells, and then tried to further elucidate their underlying molecular mechanisms. As a result, treated CEA were strongly decreased HT-29 cell viability and increased total apoptotic cells. Also, NO production was sequentially down-regulated by CEA treatment. Moreover, mRNA levels of pro-apoptotic Bax and Bak were increased, whereas anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL were decreased in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that CEA might have a potent anti-cancer activity through an intrinsic mitochondria pathway.
