전통적인 방식의 미술품 전시 및 전시 해설의 미술관에서 벗어나 동시대 미술관들에서는 관람객과 소통하고, 그들의 참여를 독려하고 위상을 높이는 각기 다른 새로운 시도들을 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 새로운 미술관 전시 사례들에 영향을 미친 이론적 경향들을 알아본다. 그리고 최근 4년간 연구자가 경험한 전시들 중 사례 14가지를 여섯 가지 주제로 묶어서 그 교육적 의미를 살펴보고자 했다. 본 연구에서 파악한 동시대 미술관 전시들의 새로운 사례들은 다음과 같은 주제들로 묶일 수 있었다. 첫째, 관람객의 작품 해석을 도와주는 미술관, 둘째, 서로 다른 관람객들의 소통 및 미술관 경험의 공유, 셋째, 전문가와 비전문가 등 다양한 목소리의 반영, 넷째, 관람객의 체험, 경험및 놀이 중심, 다섯째, 테크놀로지를 통한 관람객의 참여 촉구, 여섯째, 관람객과의 협력적 전시 설계이다. 본 연구는 동시대 미술관 전시의 확장된 사례들을 제시함으로써 미술관 교육 및 프로그램 개발에 새로운 지평을 제시하는 바탕을 마련한다.
Abstract
Contemporary art exhibitions are the consequences of new approaches which aim to break away from traditional types of object-centered museums that prioritize expert knowledge and hierarchical communication between the curators and the visitors. These new approaches encourage activated visitorship, multi-way communication, and visitor participation. Thus, this study navigates some of the theories which influenced the current status of contemporary art exhibitions. Then, it also presents 14 types of innovative contemporary art exhibitions that the researcher experienced in person during the last four years. These contemporary art exhibitions were grouped into six types: 1) art museums that are encouraging supported interpretation; 2) communication among the museum visitors and sharing of the museum experiences; 3) reflection of diverse voices including those of art experts and non-experts; 4) emphasis on visitor experience and play; 5) technology-based visitor participation; and 6) collaborative exhibition design with art museum visitors. This study provides a basis of new approaches in museum education and programming by introducing several cases of innovative contemporary art exhibitions.
