Abstract
This paper investigates the determinants of competitiveness in renewable energy industry using System GMM(generalized method of moments). Here we used energy production share as the proxy of competitiveness. We used paneal data for 40 countries and obtained the following results. (1) The government policy and the patents have positive effects on the ratio of NRE electricity to total electricity. (2) Both Feed-in Tariff(FIT) and Renewable energy Portfolio Standard(RPS) are useful elements in increasing the share of NRE. (3) FIT affects more than RPS. In addition, we found the long-term effect on the production seems to be larger than short-term effect. In other words, it takes time for the patents to affect on the production of new technology or on the international competitiveness.
