Abstract

This study establishes multi-faceted business evaluation indexes and analyzes the business performance of Hansalim Anseong-Machum Sikpum (HAMS), an agro-food processing corporation, using the importance-performance analysis (IPA) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) methods. First, the business evaluation indexes suitable for HAMS, that is, 5 upper and 25 subordinate indexes, were established through a review of relevant literature, interviews with business managers in the field, use of the Delphi method with 13 experts, and a statistical analysis process. Second, a survey was conducted to evaluate importance-performance and relative importance of the business evaluation indexes on 41 persons in stakeholder corporations involved in HAMS. Third, IPA and AHP were used in business evaluation analysis with the results of the survey. Fourth, the results of IPA analysis on importance-performance and AHP analysis on relative importance of the business evaluation indexes were compared. Key factors in performance identified during this analysis included quality maintenance/improvement, growth, productivity, expansion of local bean production, improvement of processing technology, claim responses, financial soundness, production management system, management goals and management plans. These key performance factors should continue to be strengthened, but other factors need to be prioritized and improvements made gradually from now on. Supplementary studies on the establishment of business evaluation indexes reflecting each type of agro-food processing corporation and its characteristics will also be needed, as will follow-up studies on the development of management information systems for practical use of business evaluation analysis using IPA and AHP.
