그의 교육사상은 주로 그의 두 작품: De Magistro(교사에 관하여)와 De Doctrina Christiana(기독교 교육에 관하여)로 요약할 수 있다.
Abstract
Early Christian thought was shaped by a number of men whose philosophies fell in the Platonic strain. But the great name here is St. Augustius' philosophy. St. Augustinus(354?-430) belongs in the Middle Ages as the teacher of the Middle Ages, but philosophically was far in advance of his age. His Educational thought is chiefly summed up in his two works: De Magistro(On Teacher) and De Doctrina Christiana(On Christian Education). My motive in this study is to analyse and to critically examine of St. Augustinus' concept of teaching. I have set three goals for this study. My first task is to demonstrate the tradition of patristic philosophy. My second task is to analyse Augustine's concept of teaching: 1) background and sketch of De Magistro, 2) the use of language and meaning of teaching, 3) the increase of knowledge and paradox of teaching, and 4) magister exterior(exterior teacher) and interior teacher(magister interior). My third goal is to critically examine his concept of teaching.
