유아 그림책 표지 이미지디자인에 대한 회화성 표현연구- 하인리히 뵐플린의 도상학 이론을 중심으로 -

그림책은 책과 놀이의 기능을 가진 교육 매체로 아이들의 가치관, 태도, 생각, 문화와 지식 등의 요소를 제공한다. 특히 그림책의 표지 디자인은 유아들의 시각적 자극과 흥미유발과 연관되어 더욱 신경을 써야 하는 디자인 가운데 하나이다. 본 연구는 유아용 그림책 표지디자인의 중요성에 대한 연구로, 책 표지의 이미지 유형과 표현방식, 회화성의 시각적 요소를 중심으로 유아 그림책 표지디자인의 시각적 특징을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 범위는 2022년 교보문고 베스트셀러 리포트에 따른 상위 30위에 해당하는 유아 그림책 이미지로 정하였다. 연구 방법은 책표지 이미지에 대한 3가지의 유형과 하인리히 뵐플린의 도상학 이론에 따른 5가지 도상 해석 쌍에 관한 지식을 고찰하고, ‘표지유형’과 ‘표현방식’으로 책표지를 분류하였으며, 뵐플린의 도상 해석 개념을 통해 회화성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 그림책 표지의 이미지 유형은 ‘내용 지향적인 표지 그림’의 유형이 모든 책표지에 속하였으며, 표지의 표현 방식은 일러스트레이션으로 디자인된 책표지 이미지가 가장 많이 사용되었다. 뵐플린의 도상 해석 이론을 통한 결론을 살펴보면, 책표지에 대해 ‘회화 차원’이 월등히 우세했으며, ‘평면 차원’이 2배 많이 사용되었고, ‘개방 형태’의 책표지가 2배 가까운 높은 비율로, ‘다원성’의 표현이 2배 높게 나타났고, ‘상대 명료’의 표현 비율이 조금 높게 나타났다.
Abstract
Picture books are educational media that have the functions of books and play and provide elements such as children's values, attitudes, thoughts, culture and knowledge. In particular, the cover design of picture books is one of the designs that needs to be paid more attention to in connection with the visual stimulation and interest induction of infants. This study is a study on the importance of children's picture book cover design and aims to analyze the visual characteristics of children's picture book cover design, focusing on the visual elements of image type, expression method, and painting expression of book cover. The scope of the study was determined as the image of an infant picture book ranked in the top 30 according to the 2022 Kyobo Bookstore Bestseller Report. The research method examined the knowledge of three types of book cover images and five pairs of graphic interpretation according to Heinrich Wölfflin's iconography theory, classified book covers into 'Cover Type' and 'Expression Method', and analyzed painting expression through Wölfflin's concept of graphic interpretation. As a result of the study, as for the image type of picture book cover, the type of "Content-oriented Cover Picture" belonged to all book covers, and book cover images designed by Illustration were the most frequently used as the expression method of the cover. According to Wölfflin's conclusion through the theory of iconography interpretation, the 'Dimensional' was far superior to the book cover, the 'Planar' was used twice as much, the expression of 'Multiple' was nearly twice as high, and the expression of 'Relative Clarity' was a little higher.
