Abstract
The purpose of this study is to know changes in communicative expressions as answer for echolalia and scene situation after applying visual language intervention using letter card to children with autistic disorder who use echolalia. The subjects of this research are three children with autistic disorder aged three or four who can do word recognition and use echolalia in 80% of total speaking. The experiment used multiple baseline design between subjects. One session was 40 minutes. Intervention effect of the session was evaluated during the first 20 minutes. During the latter 20 minutes, research showed letter cards to children that they need to answer in natural housekeeping play situation. Intervention is operated when the children read the letter cards. For the answering to scene situation, subject “Who?”, object "What?", adverb “Where?” were used. The results of this study are as follows. First, through visual language intervention using letter card, three children with autistic disorder decreased echolalia but increased voluntary language expression. Second, the visual language intervention using letter card had effects on improvement, maintenance, generalization of communicative expressions of children with autistic disorder to tell proper answers with scene situation, “Who?”, “What?” and “Where?” The results show that visual language intervention that the strength of children with autistic disorder which percept more easier visual stimulation than auditory stimulation is effective for acquisition, generalization, maintenance of their communicative expressions.
