초록
This study examines news media’s intermedia agenda-setting role at an international level in the news coverage of candidates for the 2008 U.S. Democratic presidential nomination. By employing a cross-lagged correlation analysis, we clarified the causal direction of the intermedia influence between the U.S. news media and the online news media of Korea as well as the similarity of their news coverage. In results, such intermedia influence at an international level appeared to have a strong implication for an elite media leadership. First, at the issue level of intermedia agenda-setting, a longitudinal examination of news stories about the political candidates demonstrated a close association in political news coverage between U.S. and Korean news media. In addition, at the attribute level, a series of cross-lagged correlation analyses found significant influence from U.S. to Korean news media. By determining the direction of influence, these time-lag analyses provided a nice evidence of U.S. media’s leadership over Korean media concerning the U.S. political news coverage.
