초록

이 논문은 가족관계 내에서 아동과 노인을 돌보며 돌봄을 실천하는 남성들의 경험을 토대로 돌보는 남성성의 가능성을 모색한다. 돌보는 남성은 아직까지 소수에 불과하다. 소수지만 돌봄에 참여하는 남성의 존재는 헤게모니적 남성성의 개념에 균열을 내는 변화의 계기로 작용하고 있다. 기존의 연구에서 아동과 노인을 돌보는 남성의 경험을 분리하여 접근했던 것과 다르게 이 논문에서는 아동과 노인을 돌보는 남성들의 경험을 통합적인 관점에서 분석을 시도한다. 이를 통해 대상에 초점을 맞춘 돌봄의 특성을 넘어 모두에 대한 관계적 속성을 특징으로 하는 돌봄 실천을 토대로 새로운 남성성의 가능성을 모색한다. 헤게모니적 남성성에 대한 균열이 새롭게 돌보는 남성성으로 확대되어 새로운 대항적 헤게모니 남성성을 만들어낼지 여부는 지켜볼 필요가 있다. 이 논문 은 낙관적 기대 속에 비판적 주의를 기울이며 돌보는 남성의 현실과 그 현실이 놓인 사회문화적 구조를 연결해 분석하면서 여성만이 돌보는 사회가 아닌 남성도 더불어, 나아가 모두에게 보장되는 일-삶-돌봄 균형 사회로의 변화 가능성을 모색한다.

Abstract

This paper aims to search for a possibility of caring masculinities based on the practices of men caring for children or elderlies. Male carers are a few. Nevertheless, the fact that male carers exist can be a sign of change, a fissure in hegemonic masculinities. Unlike previous studies which considered male childcarers and male elderly carers separately, this paper attempts an integrated approach examining both types of male carers. In other words, this paper seeks to examine the possibility of caring masculinities focusing on the care in a relational and practical sense. It is too early to say that this fissure in the hegemonic masculinities would lead to an expansion of new caring masculinities and eventually, a creation of new masculinity. Be that as it may, with an optimistic but critical examination of the realities faced by male carers and their socio-cultural structures, this paper searches for a possibility of a social change where everyone shares the responsibility of care, not passing the burden from women to men.
