이 연구는 푸코의 몸담론을 바탕으로 ‘몸권력’의 개념과 분석틀을 정립해보는 시론적 작업과 이러한 분석틀에 의거하여 ‘날씬한 몸’관리를 통해 여성의 몸이 재구성되는 구도와 방식을 파악하는 작업으로 이루어진다. 몸권력에 관한 푸코적 분석틀의 고안은 거시적 차원의 권력관계들이 몸의 미시권력으로 연계작동하는 방식과 기제를 밝히고 특히 이 미시권력이 몸의 주체화 양식을 통해 지배적 권력관계에 포섭되거나 또는 저항하는 측면들을 논의하기 위한 것이다. 날씬한 몸관리에 대한 분석은 자본의 권력이 가부장제 권력을 포섭하면서 주체화양식을 통해 ‘자기해방’의 전략을 구사하고 가부장적 자본의 권력이 자아의 기술들을 매개로 여성의 개별적인 몸권력으로 치환되는 과정을 밝히고자 한 것이다. 이러한 작업들을 통해 이 논문에서는 주체화 양식이 개인의 자유와 저항의 가능성을 높여주는 것임에도 불구하고, 날씬한 몸관리에서처럼 오히려 지배권력에 더 적극적(주체적)으로 편승하는 현상을 초래한다는 것과 이 때문에 지배권력이 개인화되고 탈정치화되는 현상에 대한 미시정치학적 접근이 중요하다는 점에 주목한다
Abstract
This study is composed of two parts : one is to elaborate the concept and the framework of the ‘body power' based on Foucault's theory, and the other is to apply this framework to analyze how the female body is reconstructed in the case of the ‘slim body’ making. The elaboration of Foucault's theoretical framework of the body power in this study is purposed to discuss two points : the first one is how the power relations on macro level operate through the micro power of the body, and the next one is how the body power is absorbed into or resist to the dominant power relations by way of the subjectification. The analysis of the slim body making syndrome attempts to make clear how the power of capital appropriating the patriarchal power drives the ‘self-liberation' strategy and how the power of the patriarchal capital is replaced by the individual body power by the mediation of the technologies of the self. The aim of this paper is to show how the subjectification, like in the case of the slim body making, increases not the possibility of resistance but the voluntary self-integration into the dominant power relations. This means that the micropolitics of power is the only way in order to confront with the individualization as well as the depoliticization of the dominant power relations.
