스포츠 관중 폭력과 성불평등: 안산 선수 온라인 괴롭힘 기사에 관한 비판적 담론분석

초록

이 연구의 목적은 여성 선수에 대한 남성 관람자의 온라인 괴롭힘 사건을 보도하는 전통 매체 기사를 분석하여, 스포츠계의 관중 폭력과 성불평등 현상이 어떻게 스포츠계 외부의 사회문화적 맥락과 연결되어 (재)생산되는지 탐색하고, 스포츠계 성평등화 실현 을 위해서 어떤 노력이 필요한지 고찰하는 것이다. 이 연구는 사례 연구로서 2020 도쿄올림픽대회 기간에 발생한 안산 선수 사건을 보도한 145건의 기사를 대상으로 페어 클로프의 비판적 담론분석 방법을 활용하였다. 분석 결과 언론사들은 온라인 개인 미디 어에서 발생한 안산 선수 사건을 대중매체라는 공적 미디어에서 보도하면서 ‘해설체’보다 ‘이야기체’ 담론 장르를 더 많이 사용하여 흥미 위주의 보도를 하였다. 언론사가 기 사 텍스트에서 생산한 담론의 주제를 보면 11가지로 나타났다. 언론사 보도로 인해 안산 선수 사건은 ‘온라인 학대’보다 ‘페미니즘 논란’이라는 담론이 더 지배적이게 되고, 안산 선수는 스포츠 관중 폭력의 피해자보다 페미니즘 ‘논란’을 극복한 스포츠 영웅이라는 담론이 더 확고하게 되었다. 두 담론이 지배적으로 되면서 여성 선수에 대한 남성 관람자의 온라인 학대 문제를 개선하기 위한 담론이 전혀 발전하지 못했다. 향후 여성 선수에 대한 온라인 학대 문제를 개선하기 위해서 스포츠 조직이 주도적으로 언론사와 협력하여 문제 해결 방안을 제시하는 것이 필요하고, 언론사는 온라인에서 벌어지는 스포츠계 성불평등 상황을 보도할 때, 흥미 위주의 이야기체보다 해설체의 담론 장르를 더 많이 사용하는 것이 필요하다.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how gender inequality between female athletes and male spectators is (re)produced in relation to the sociocultural context by analyzing news articles reporting online abuse experienced by a female athlete, An San. As a case study, this study selects 145 news articles reporting online abuse experienced by the Korean female archer, An San during the 2020 Olympics, and employs Fairclough’s method of critical discourse analysis. The analysis finds that mass media outlets used the ‘narrative’ discourse genre much more than the ‘exposition’ genre in order to attract more readers. In addition, this research identifies eleven themes of discourses constructed by mass media companies. Among them, the discourse of ‘feminism dispute’ was more prevalent than the discourse of ‘online abuse’ in the news articles, and the discourse of the ‘sport heroin’ rather than ‘victim of online abuse’ was predominant when describing An San. As a result, mass media outlets made it more difficult to identify reasons for the abuse and to foster the prevention of online abuse targeting women athletes. Thus, this study maintains that mass media should employ more of the exposition genre to persuade readers to change their discriminative behaviors, and that sports organizations should make official guidelines to prevent online bullying against women athletes.
