Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of sociotropy in the relationship between use of image-based SNS and disordered eating behaviors in female college students. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted for 223 female college students using the The Korean Version of Eating Attitudes Test-26 (KEAT-26), Social media Involvement Scale, Social media Self-presentation Scale, Personal Style Inventory-Ⅱ (PSI-Ⅱ). The collected results are analyzed using the SPSS program. The results were as follows. First. use of image-based SNS predicted disordered eating behaviors significantly. Second, as a result of examining the moderating effect of sociotropy in the relationship between use of image-based SNS and disordered eating behaviors, the interaction effect was significantly confirmed. In other words, it was found that the relationship between use of image-based SNS and disordered eating behaviors was different depending on the level of sociotropy. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study, and the suggestions for future research were discussed.
