Abstract
The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) is one of the most widely used self-report measures that assess personality and psychopathology. The psychometric properties of the PAI were broadly investigated including its reliability and validity. Previous literature that explored the factor structure of the PAI has revealed inconsistent results. The factor structures found in the previous studies were different in the number of factors or components, which results from the characteristics of the sample and methodological issues. The present study aimed to explore the factor structure of the revised version of the Korean PAI through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The total sample comprised 1,279 Korean adults collected from the project to develop the restandardized Korean version of the PAI. The revised version of the Korean PAI was administered in Korean adult population. Parallel analysis revealed that a 3-factor solution is appropriate for 22 PAI full scales. The result of exploratory factor analysis generated 3 oblique dimensions, which consist of (a) general psychological distress, (b) drug-related problem (c) tendency to act out and interpersonal problem. However, the fit indices of confirmatory factor analysis were poor. The components of the 3-factor structure are generally in line with the results of previous literature except the component representing drug-related problem. Our findings provided support to the applicability of the restandardized version of the PAI in the Korean population and contributed to enhancing confidence regarding the construct validity of the PAI.
