Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relation of mother's childhood experiences, mother's emotional regulation style, mothers attitude toward her child's emotional expressiveness and preschoolers' emotional ability. The subjects were 137 preschoolers'(65boys, 72girls, aged 5-6) mothers and teachers. Emotional ability was measured by their teacher. Mother's childhood experience, mother's emotional regulation style and mother's attitude toward her child's emotional expressiveness were measured by mother. The data were analyzed Pearson's correlations and multiple regressions. The results of this study were as follows: First, mother used much more active-regulation way, their child's emotional regulation ability was better. Second, the more permissive mother's attitude toward a child's emotional expressiveness, the better child's emotional regulation ability. Third, the more overprotected and rejected experience in childhood, the lower level of mother's active-regulation way. The more rejected experience in childhood, the more compulsive attitude toward child's expressiveness Forth, mother's attitude toward their child's emotional expressiveness and mother's active-regulation way had effect on preschoolers' emotional regulation ability. This results showed that parents education programs focusing on permissive attitude towards child's emotional expressiveness and mother's active-regulation way should be developed, counselling on mothers' childhood experiences should be done designed in order to improve a child's emotional regulation ability. This study implicated father's role in parenting.
