Abstract

[Purpose] This study examined the effects of a telepractice-based intervention that combined phonological awareness training and video self-modeling (VSM) on the word decoding and reading fluency of slow learners. [Method] Three first-grade elementary students identified as slow learners participated in the study. A multiple-baseline design across subjects was employed, consisting of baseline, intervention, and maintenance phases. The intervention package, which integrated phonological awareness training and VSM, was delivered via telepractice. Word decoding performance was measured continuously throughout the sessions, and reading fluency was assessed through preand post-test comparisons. [Results] The combined telepractice intervention produced positive effects in both target areas. Participants showed improvement in word decoding accuracy and demonstrated enhanced reading fluency following the intervention. [Conclusion] These findings suggest that telepractice-based phonological awareness training combined with video self-modeling can effectively enhance the word decoding and reading fluency skills of slow learners. The findings suggest that systematic, repeated, and technology-assisted interventions may support improvements in the reading skills of slow learners.
