초록

Objectives: Adjustment disorder (AJD) is a maladaptive reaction to an identifiable psychosocial stressor or multiple stressors. The objective of this clinical case study was to report the efficacy of Oriental psychotherapy including Rogers’ person-centered counseling in treating AJD. Methods: For a female subject in her 50s who was diagnosed with AJD, Korean Medicine Psychotherapy including Roger’s person-centered counseling was used for treatment. Her treatment also included herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping therapy that lasted for 105 days. Changes in Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Beck Depression Index (BDI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and patient’s subjectively reported symptoms were assessed. Results: Although psychiatric medication dosage was reduced the during the treatment process, improvements were observed in the patient’s subjectively reported symptoms and NRS scores after treatment. In the initial phase, symptoms fluctuated in response to stress levels. However, the patient gradually demonstrated improved coping strategies, although her changes of BDI and PSQI were not statistically significant. Conclusions: These outcomes suggest that traditional Korean psychotherapy including Roger’s person- centered counseling is effective in treating AJD.
