초록
Objective: This case report describes clinical improvement of acute stress disorder (ASD) with autonomic nervous system imbalance following complex Korean medicine treatment. Methods: A 71-year-old woman developed ASD symptoms, including anxiety, chest tightness, dyspepsia, facial flushing, and insomnia, following an assault. The patient received complex Korean medical treatment, including herbal medicine (Soshiho-tang followed by Cheonwangbosim-dan), acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion, for 27 days during hospitalization. Symptoms were assessed using Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) for chest and flank pain, EQ-5D for quality of life, and sleep parameters. Results: After treatment, BAI score decreased from 29 to 18, indicating improvement from severe anxiety to normal range. NRS for chest and flank pain improved from 7 to 2, EQ-5D index increased from 0.485 to 0.816, total sleep time increased from 3 to 6 h, and sleep onset latency reduced from 2 to 0.5 h. No adverse reactions or side effects were observed. Conclusion: This case suggests that complex Korean medicine treatment may effectively alleviate psychological and autonomic symptoms of acute stress disorder. Further studies with larger sample sizes and control groups are required to validate these findings.
