가족 사별을 경험한 대학생의 애도 유형 탐색

초록

본 연구는 가족 사별을 경험한 대학생의 애도과정의 유형을 탐색하여 중요한 관계에서 상실을 경험한 대학생의 애도과정을 구체적으로 이해하고 지원 방안을 제안하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 가족의 사별을 경험한 대학생 12명을 개별 면담하여 각 참여자들의 애도과정의 양상을 살펴보고 각 참여자의 특징을 정리하였다. 이 과정에서 유사한 특징을 지닌 참여자들을 중심으로 애도과정을 유형화하고 각 유형별 적응의 단계 및 절차를 제시하였다. 자료의 분석 과정에서 사용된 연구방법은 근거이론 접근방법(Strauss & Corbin, 1990, 1998)이었으며 각 단계에서 연구 과정에 참여한 대학생과 비참여자이지만 동일한 경험을 지닌 대학생, 그리고 가족 상실 경험을 지닌 내담자에 대한 상담 경험이 있는 심리상담 전문가의 타당도 검증 과정을 통해 현상에 대한 사실적 가치를 확보하고자 하였다. 분석 결과 가족 사별을 경험한 대학생들의 애도과정은 충격-혼란-대처-전환의 단계를 거치는 것으로 나타났으며 애도 유형은 정서 중심 대처형, 변화 시도형, 그리고 기능적 대처형의 세 가지 유형으로 분류되었다. 각 유형은 고인과 관계 친밀, 고인과 관계 소원의 특성에 따라 친밀형과 소원형의 2가지로 하위분류되었다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 가족 사별의 경험을 지닌 대학생의 애도 유형별 애도 양상의 구체적인 이해와 각 개인의 특성에 따른 차별적인 지원 노력을 위한 기초자료가 제공되었다는 의의를 지닌다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the type of grief of bereaved university students and provide a baseline data for supporting bereaved university students. For this purpose, we interviewed 12 university students who had experienced the grief with bereaved families, and analyzed the characteristics of grief process. The grief types were categorized by similar features in grief process and the phase of grief types were presented. The data analysis was based on grounded theory of Strauss and Corbin’s(1990, 1998). In order to achieve the validity of the result, validation process was conducted. The results indicated that the bereaved university students experienced 4 phases such as shock, chaos, coping, and transition and the grief types were categorized by a emotion focused coping, a transition period, and a functional coping type(a emotion and solution focused coping). In addition, these types were subcategorized by the degree of intimacy to the dead such as a intimate type and a estranged type. Based on the results of this study, it is meaningful that basic data were provided for the understanding of the bereavement types of university students who have experience of family bereavement and the different support efforts according to the characteristics of each individual.
