본 연구는 손해보험사의 투자손익을 자본과 부채의 구성비, 그리고 보험종목별 책임준비금의 구성비에 따라 배분하는 현행 방식에 대해 보험부채인 책임준비금의 속성과 투자리스크의 부담 주체를 고려할 필요가 있음을 제기한다. 책임준비금은 지출시기와 지출규모가 불확실한 보험부채로 이의 적립에는 일정 부분 자본이 기여하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 책임준비금의 운용과 관련한 리스크는 보험사가 부담하고 있기 때문이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 무위험수익률에 유동성 리스크를 고려한 보험종목별 투자손익 배분방식을 제시한다. 본 연구는 책임준비금의 적립과 자산운용에 있어 자본의 역할을 보다 정확히 반영하는 배분방식을 제기하고 있다는 점에 그 의의가 있다.
Abstract
In this paper, we suggest that the current method of allocating investment income by business line, which is based on the ratio of capital to liability and the proportion of reserves for each business line, needs to be modified so that the nature of reserves as ‘insurance liability’ and the risk of insurers are reflected in the process of income allocation. This is because insurers not only make a certain level of contribution to the accumulation of reserves, but also take all the risk associated with investing reserves. To this end, we consider an alternative method that uses risk-free rate adjusted by liquidity risk, focusing on the role of insurers in accumulating and investing reserves.
