Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of positive behavior support conducted by experts and parents on challenging behaviors of adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The subjects of the study were selected as 3 adults with ASD living in an independent living training home run by the parents' association for the ASD in city D. The study design was used a multiple baseline design across subjects in order to positive behavior support for the subjects' challenging behaviors. Background and setting event strategies, alternative behavior strategies, and consequence strategies were conducted at independent living training home in order to support the subjects' challenging behaviors such as self-harm behavior, maladjustment behavior, binge eating behavior, and churn behavior. As a result of applying the parental participation positive behavior support, the challenging behaviors of adults with ASD at home and independent living training home decreased. It was shown that the intervention also had positive effects on the maintenance period. In particular, we found that the effects were better when parents actively participated in the intervention. The significance of this study is to emphasize on the importance of providing PBS to adults with ASD and involving parents in the intervention process.
