Abstract

The purpose of this study was to verify the sequential dual mediating effects of self-concept clarity and social comparison on the effects of perfectionistic self- presentation, self-concept clarity, and social comparison on SNS addiction tendencies in adolescents. For this purpose, this study conducted an online survey targeting 315 students attending three middle schools and two high schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis and SPSS Macro's bootstrapping method were performed using SPSS Win 21.0. The main results of this study are as follows. First, there was a significant difference in SNS addiction tendency depending on the gender of adolescents. Second, it was revealed that adolescents' self-concept clarity and social comparison had an influence on SNS addiction tendency. Third, self-concept clarity and social comparison were found to have a sequential double mediating effect on the influence of adolescents' perfectionistic self-presentation on SNS addiction tendency. Based on the results of this study, the mechanisms of adolescents' SNS addiction tendency, reduction of SNS addiction tendency, and implications for psychotherapy were discussed.
