Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the moderating effect of emotion regulation strategies and need for control and worry. The survey data were collected from 361 undergraduate students in Gangwon-do: Need for control (K-SCI), emotion regulation strategy (ERQ), and worry (PSWQ) were tested. To investigate the correlations between the need for control, the emotion regulation strategy (cognitive reinterpretation, suppression of emotional expression), and worry, correlational analyses were carried out. A hierarchical regression analysis was performed to examine whether the two subfactors of the emotional regulation strategy controlled the relationship between the need for control and the worry. As a result of examining the correlation, the higher the need for control, the higher the cognitive reinterpretation, the suppression of emotional expression, and the worry, and the higher the cognitive reinterpretation, the lower the worry. Need for control showed a moderating effect of lowering anxiety along with cognitive reinterpretation and suppression of emotional expression. It has therapeutic implications for people with high need for control to effectively lower their anxiety through emotional regulation strategies.
